Sport - Level 3 National Extended Diploma

Are you looking to work in and around the sports industry? Our range of sport courses have been developed to meet the expanding employment opportunities within the industry including: health and fitness facilities, coaching/teaching, professional sport and performance analysis. This qualification is the equivalent in UCAS points to 3 A-levels, and allows entry to university courses (student achievement dependant).

In addition to the above, Barrow Football Club and Rochdale Hornets all use our outstanding facilities as their training bases therefore highlighting that you will learn and develop in professional sports performance environments.

The majority of our students progress onto university and obtain a degree in a wide variety of sports related disciplines including sports psychology.

This course is taught at our Middleton campus, located in Middleton, Greater Manchester.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade C/4 or above to include English or Mathematics. Alternatively, a relevant BTEC Level 2 Qualification, NVQ Level 2 or VRQ Level 2.

Details

This course has been developed to meet the expanding employment opportunities within the Sports and Fitness industries including: health and fitness facilities, coaching/teaching, professional sport and performance. This course includes a combination of practical and written assignments with no examination. There will be a placement in the second year of the course which you must perform well in as part of the pass criteria.

Topics on this course include:

  • Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport

  • Sports coaching

  • Practical team sports

  • Sports nutrition

  • Psychology for sports performance

  • Fitness training and programming

  • Sports leadership

  • Organising sports events

  • Injury in sport

Work Experience

There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course however, you will obtain the skills and knowledge that you need in order to progress into employment in the Sports industry.

Progression

Upon completion of this course, you have a number of options to choose from. If you wish to continue your studies, this course provides UCAS points in the range of 120-420, which can help with entry to higher education or provide enough on its own depending on the degree/course chosen and institution. You can enquire about further study to accrue more UCAS points.

Alternatively, if you think it's time to enter employment, there is a range of possible careers for you to pursue such as: Sport Coaching, Sports Development, Leisure Centre Assistant or Supervisor, Teaching, PE Assistant in schools, Armed Forces, Sports Therapist, Sports Journalist, Sports Business & Marketing, Gym Instructor, NHS Public Health Initiatives, and more.
