4 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above to include English Language and Mathematics and/or a Level 2 qualification in Early Years.
During the course you will be taught about how to support children's development within an early years setting, including the delivery of the early years foundation stage curriculum.
The course consists of units that will each be assed with a written task and a practical assessment. This qualification is designed to prepare learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding to enter work in an early years setting and be included in staff:child ratios.
You will study subjects including:
- Role of the Early Years Educator
- Holistic Child Development
- Children with SEN and Disabilities
- Effective Communication
- Safeguarding and Welfare Health, Wellbeing and Safety
- Promoting an Effective Early Years Curriculum
- Child Observation Assessment
- Partnership Working
Loans for course fees may be available for eligible learners.
As part of your work placement, the College will support you in completing a DBS application if you are a volunteer.
To complete a level 3 part time course, you will be required to find a voluntary placement or paid employment. You will be expected to find your own placement. Within your placement you will be required to support the staff in their daily role. You will support children on an individual or group basis, supporting their holistic development.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following:
Employment:
- Educator in day nurseries
- Educator in nursery schools
- Educator in reception classes in primary schools
- Pre-school worker
Further Education:
- NCFE CACHE Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner
- Higher Education – personal statements may be accepted by universities
