The course is aimed at learners over 19 years of age who are pursuing a career as a teaching assistant. You will be able to progress onto level 3 supporting teaching and learning in schools course upon completion of this qualification.
The course runs for 35 weeks (1 full academic year), for 6 hours per week on a Tuesday and Wednesday. The full course cost is £793.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs grade D/3 or above to include English and Mathematics or equivalent qualifications.
Details
During the course you will be taught about how to support children’s development within a school environment and how a school provides curriculum support to children. The course consists of units that will each be assessed with a written task and a practical assessment.
Work Experience
To complete a level 2 part time course you will be required to find a placement in a primary or secondary school. You will be expected to find your own placement. Within your placement you will be required to support the class teacher and teaching assistant in their daily role. You will support children on an individual or group basis, developing their numeracy, literacy and confidence. Your role will be to follow policies and procedures set in the school.
As part of your work placement, the College will support you in completing a DBS application.
Progression
Upon completion of this qualification you will be able to progress onto either the level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools course or the Early Year’s Educator pathway. You will also be able to gain employment in a school as a teaching assistant
