If you wish to work in the Creative Arts industry, then this is the course for you. The course focuses on the development of practical skills, practical exploration of ideas, concepts across a range of different mediums, methods, techniques and conceptualisation that are considered fundamental to Art & Design. When undertaking practical assessments, you are expected to perform to an industry standard and use your own initiative to research required topics. The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of creative industries within areas such as visual art, Fine Art, Print, Ceramics, Fashion and more. You will also undertake termly industry related enrichment visits to local and national galleries and events and will receive visiting artist lecturers and yearly artist residencies will enhance your learning experience.

You will also produce a professional portfolio showcasing a range of processes and techniques, commercial, cultural and visual awareness, there will also by opportunities for suitable students to undertake work experience with local artists and to work on regional projects.

Course fees: £6,000.

Staff credentials: The academic HE staff team on the programme have vocational experience within the Arts industry and proven academic ability within the team, making them ideally placed to help you the learner apply theory and practical skills to professional levels.  The staff educational profile includes degrees in Printed and Woven Textiles, Fine Art and Environmental Art - technical staff hold an MA Art & Design and oversee a range of workshops including Sculpture, Ceramics, Print, Woodwork and Fabricating. The team have a wealth of experience in hosting public arts events and are current artists in their own right. All staff have a recognised teaching qualification and work closely with industry partners to prepare a curriculum that closely supports progression into industry.

Expected workload: 12 hours per week on campus in face to face lecturers, seminars or workshops.  Learners will be expected to undertake independant theoretical and practical study to support face to face learning.

Additional costs: All learners have access to a wide range of workshops, resources and materials.  However to fully support independant study all learners are required to purchase an Art pack at year start and it is also recommended that learners purchase high quality sketch books and a large portfolio A1. All items can be purchased from the art department. Art Pack £50, Sketchbooks £5.50 and Portfolios £22.50.

Progression

Learners who achieve the HNC qualification can progress onto the second year of the HND or onto the second year of a relevant degree course. Upon completion of the 2-year HND; learners can top-up to a full degree in a related Art & Design, Creative Arts, 3D Design, Fashion or other relevant subject area. Employment and self-employment in the creative arts sector is also an option and self promotion is an essential element of the course structure.
