5 GCSE passes (Grade 4 or above), including English and Maths.
Areas that you will study on this course include:
- Working in the health and science sector, including: teamworking, reflective evaluation, safeguarding, record-keeping and data management.
- Classification and symptoms of mental health conditions, how these may impact an individual and how to provide recovery-based, holistic care and support.
- Considering the diverse needs of the patient, such as age, co-morbidities, environmental differences and how this may impact their care.
- Risk assessment, management, prevention and reduction.
- Identifying groups at risk of poor mental wellbeing and good practice in working with these groups
- Reviewing the social impact of mental ill health and looking at how to support families and carers.
- Developing a therapeutic rapport, including barriers and how to overcome them. Proactive approaches in managing behaviour that challenges. Developing enhanced communication skills and overcoming barriers.
- Understanding the roles of the mental health multi-disciplinary team (including support services) and assisting the team with therapeutic interventions.
- Understanding interventions including strengths and limitations.
- Promoting mental wellbeing within both patients and the workforce and gaining knowledge of coping strategies.
- Guidelines and policies, health, safety and environmental regulations, infection prevention and control.
The T-Level is assessed through two written examinations and an employer set project.
You will undertake a 45 day (315 hours) practical work placement in a real-world environment, giving you the opportunity to learn from professionals on-the-job and utilise your new skills and knowledge. This places you in a great position to progress into employment once you complete your T-Level qualification.
Your T-Level in Mental Health Nursing will provide you with the next step to progress and study a degree at University or an Advanced Apprenticeship.
T-Levels provide several progression options for students, including skilled employment, an apprenticeship, and higher education, such as a Degree in Mental Health Nursing.
