T Levels

Keep your options open

T Levels are a modern alternative to A Levels, created with employers to prepare you for your next step.

They combine classroom learning with a major industry placement, giving you the knowledge and confidence to progress to university, skilled employment, or a higher apprenticeship.

Each T Level is worth the same UCAS points as three A Levels and gives you the chance to specialise in a career area you’re genuinely passionate about.

What are T-Levels?

T Levels are two-year technical qualifications that combine academic learning with practical, hands-on experience.

You’ll spend around 80% in college learning the theory and developing your specialist skills, and 20% on an industry placement putting those skills into practice.

Each T Level includes:
• A core component covering key theories and principles in your chosen field
• An occupational specialism focused on hands-on, career-specific skills
• A substantial industry placement with a real employer

It’s a complete package that prepares you for the next step, whatever that looks like for you.

Why choose a T Level?

Choosing a T Level means choosing flexibility, confidence and opportunity. You’ll gain experience that most students your age won’t have, including real projects, real deadlines and real workplaces. That means when it comes to your next step, you’re ready.

The benefits:
• National recognition from employers and universities across the UK
• Developed with employers, so every lesson links to the real world
• Substantial industry experience that strengthens your CV and UCAS applications
• Clear progression routes to university, higher apprenticeships or employment
• A single, focused subject that lets you specialise in what you enjoy most

Where can a T Level take you?

After your T Level, you can move straight into:
• University
• Higher and Degree Apprenticeships
• Skilled employment

Every T Level gives you UCAS points, so you can apply to university in exactly the same way as A Level students. You’ll also graduate with an impressive placement record and the professional skills employers want.

Progress at your own pace

We know that not everyone starts from the same place.

At Hopwood Hall College, you can study a 2-year or a 3-year T Level depending on your GCSE results.

If you don’t yet meet the entry requirements for the 2-year course, you’ll begin with a preparatory year focused on developing your English, maths and technical skills. You’ll also get hands-on experience to build your confidence before progressing onto the full T Level.

It means everyone gets the chance to succeed, whether you’re ready to start the full qualification now or need a little more time to prepare.

Industry placements

Your industry placement is what makes a T Level stand out.

You’ll spend a minimum of 315 hours (around 45 days) working with an employer in your chosen sector. It’s your chance to apply your learning, build your network and prove yourself in a real workplace.

Many students use their placement experience to secure apprenticeships or part-time work before finishing college. It’s a head start that A Levels can’t offer.

“At Hopwood Hall, you’ll learn in professional environments, work with local and national employers, and leave with a qualification that sets you apart.”
