Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
This Level 4 Certificate extends and builds on the previous Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) qualification, giving the candidate the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to ‘confirm occupational competence’ in a teaching or training role. The course is aimed at teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers, support tutors, assessors and instructors who may be working within an FE college, adult and community learning centre or learning provider including prisons, as well as people delivering work-based training such as voluntary, community, private and public organisations. The Certificate can be achieved by pre-service or in-service candidates. This course can be funded by an Advanced Learner Loan.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements GCSE or equivalent in English and maths and a Level 3 qualification in specialist subject area.
Details
Units on the course are:
- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Planning to meet the needs of students in education and training
- Delivering education and training
- Assessing learners in education and training
- Using resources for education and training
- Teaching in a specialist area
You will be assessed through written assignments, practical teaching, compilation of an e-portfolio, a minimum of 30 hours teaching practice.
Course fee: £1,470.
Staff credentials: All staff teaching on this course have Masters degrees in Education / TESOL. One works within the Quality team as an Advanced Practitioner. One has recently completed an MSc in Teacher Education. All lecturers have been part of a range of education-led projects including the writing of new Level 5 DiT programmes with the Ascentis awarding oganisation, contributions to Action Research around embedding English and Maths, and the creation of supportive teaching practice workshops. They are active members of FE & HE research communities as part of their scholarly activity.
Expected workload: 4 hours on campus in face-to-face lecturers, interactive seminars or workshops on one evening a week. A teaching practice placement (minimum 30 hours) is required. Depending on the subject area, this may be offered in college.
Additional costs: There are no compulsory elements of this course that incur additional costs on this course beyond fees. It is recomnmended that you purchase a minimum of one text book for reference and to explore topics further. Other resources such as books and online sources are available in our iLearn facility.
Work Experience
There are no formal work experience requirements but you will need to complete a minimum of 30 hours teaching practice during the course.
Progression
Upon completion of this course, you can progress on to the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
