Hopwood Hall are delighted to offer this exciting new course which will provide a direct route into Higher Education courses and careers in the fields of Criminology, Law, Policing, Forensic Psychology and many related disciplines. Designed in consultation with Northwest Universities, it has a wide-ranging content, covering topics such as criminal law, criminal psychology and profiling, police powers, the operation of the criminal justice system, sentencing policy, terrorism, the reliability of criminal evidence, and the prison system. Access courses are designed for students who want a fast-track route to university or to progress into careers and vocations that require higher level qualifications. This Diploma will be of particular interest to students seeking to become: a criminal lawyer; a police officer; a forensic psychologist; a youth justice social worker; a probation officers; a prison officer, or a youth and community worker. On the course you will benefit from quality lectures and support from experienced tutors, the input of external speakers from universities and those working in the criminal justice field, and court visits. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to think critically about contemporary issues and debates which impact on the criminal law, the work of criminal justice professionals, offenders and victims of crime. Entry Requirements

Entry to this one-year Level 3 Access to HE Diploma offers students the quickest route to university. Applicants will usually have attained GCSEs at grade A-C/9-4 in English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications, such as Level 2 Functional Skills, and overseas qualifications, are also accepted. 

Details

There are 15 graded units on this Diploma: 

Criminological Practice, Homicide, Police Powers in England and Wales, Forensic Evidence, Perspectives on Policing, Offender Profiling, The Reliability of Criminal Evidence, Theories of Crime Causation, The Criminology of Prisons, The Origins of Criminology, Terrorism, the State and Civil Liberties, Criminal Justice and Social Policy, The Criminal Process, The Jury System, Law and Morality 

In addition to the above, students will complete two study skills units on academic essay writing and academic research. 

The course requires attendance for 12 hours per week over 36 weeks, and is delivered in the daytime only.

Work Experience

There are no formal work experience requirements on this course.

As noted above, Access to HE Diplomas offers students a way to gain the qualifications needed to enter Higher Education and gain a degree, helping them to enter their chosen career
