GCSE - A recent GCSE Maths qualification at Grade D or Grade 3 or a recent Level 2 Functional Skills qualification.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS - Before you enroll, we will make sure you are directed to the right level of course for you through a Maths assessment/interview. You should be able to state which skills you wish to improve, have clear goals you wish to achieve and be able to work independently.
All students must take a Maths assessment which is required to find the right study level for each applicant. If you are unsuccessful in achieving a place on the GCSE, you may be re-directed towards a Functional Skills Maths course.
MATHEMATICS GCSE includes transferable skills which is useful in all working roles. You will learn how to use problem-solving strategies and to work efficiently by breaking down complex situations into simpler steps. You will be able to explore, identify and interpret mathematical situations and communicate clearly.

The GCSE offers a linear route with no coursework. Achieving the essential minimum grade 4 or above in mathematics will open many doors in the future.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS courses cover practical Maths skills including calculating with whole number, fractions and percentages, ratios and scale, measuring shape and space, as well as using statistics and presenting data. Task based activities will allow you to practice these in real life scenarios. Your progress will be regularly reviewed with your tutor.

GCSE MATHEMATICS is an essential subject for progression to many other courses. Many universities and employers require that you have at least a grade 4 in this subject.
On successful completion of a FUNCTIONAL SKILLS MATHS course you will receive a qualification at either Entry Level or Level 1. You may then progress to the next level of Maths, to a GCSE course, or on to other further education courses.
