If you’re the type of person who likes to roll up their sleeves and get a job done well, then you would be perfect to study the Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.
This course is taught at our Middleton Campus in Middleton, Greater Manchester. In particular, it’s located in our state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering and Technology Centre.
The building is one of the most sought-after places for trades-based training in the region – featuring 6,500 square-metres of the newest and most cutting edge equipment.
You’ll spend most of your time in our painting and decorating workshop, where you’ll develop your skillset through a hands-on approach to the subject. From learning how to use the tools to improving your eye for detail, you’ll quickly build upon the basics of the trade.
You can look forward to working with our expert tutors who themselves have worked in the industry. They’ll teach you specialist techniques such as applying paint to complex surfaces, producing decorative finishes and creating colour.
This Level 2 course will give you a solid understanding on the craft, with detailed knowledge and a strong skillset that can easily be built upon if you progress onto a Level 3 qualification. *

Entry Requirements
Entrants who do not have a grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects at the college.
Applicants with 1-5 years' relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Details
You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the perfect foundation for a career in Painting & Decorating.
The following topics will provide you with a strong portfolio of evidence to progress onto the next level of study:
Principles of building construction, information and communication
Preparing surfaces for decoration
Applying paint systems by brush and roller to complex surfaces
Applying papers to walls and ceilings
Producing specialist finishes for decorative work
Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
Creating and applying colour
Work Experience
There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course.
However, the bespoke workshop is designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.
In addition, you'll have the valuable opportunity to work with real life clients through different projects. In the past this has included working in children's homes and with charities.
Progression
The completion of this course will set you up perfectly to advance to a Level 3 qualification.
However, you will also have the option to pursue an apprenticeship or alternative traineeships if you prefer.
