You’ll spend most of your time in a bespoke workshop, where you’ll develop your skillset through a hands-on approach to the subject. From learning how to use the tools to improving your eye for detail, you’ll quickly pick up the basics of the trade.
You can look forward to working with our expert tutors who themselves have worked in the industry. They’ll teach you specialist techniques such as applying foundation and producing decorative features.
Once you have completed the course you’ll be in the ideal position to progress onto a Level 2 qualification.

Functional Skills in English and Maths will run alongside this qualification.

You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the perfect foundation for a career in Painting & Decorating.
The following topics will provide you with a strong portfolio of evidence to progress onto the next level of study:
Principles of building construction information and communication
Applying paint systems by brush and roller
Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
Preparing surfaces for decoration
Applying foundation and plain paper
Producing specialist decorative finishes
Health, safety and welfare in construction
Work Experience
There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course. However, the bespoke workshop is designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.
In addition, you'll have the valuable opportunity to work with real life clients through different projects. In the past this has included working in children's homes and charities.
Progression
The completion of this course will set you up perfectly to advance to a Level 2 qualification.
However, you will also have the option to pursue an apprenticeship if you prefer.
