Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing)

Study our Level 3 Access to Higher Education in Nursing Diploma and gain the skills, experience and confidence you need for a career where you can make a difference to the lives of hundreds of patients, either adults or children and young people dependent on your pathway of choice.

Access to Higher Education courses are designed for students who want a fast track route to university or to progress into careers and vocations that require higher level qualifications. Access courses have featured at Hopwood Hall for numerous years – changing the lives of many students.

We’re proud to say that our achievement and success rates in Access to HE are amongst the best in the country. The Diploma in Nursing offers a recognised and accredited route into Higher Education. The course also offers hands on training in Nursing related professions, such as:

  • Biology
  • Health Context
  • Psychology

For many health-related courses, your application will be strengthened if you have relevant paid or voluntary work experience.

You can expect to be in class 12 hours a week usually over two days - timetables are subject to change. You will need 12-20 hours outside of class to complete assignment work.

Entry Requirements

Immediate entry to our one-year Level 3 Access to HE Diplomas - offering the quickest route to university - is open to students who have already attained sufficient GCSE qualifications (Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths - it is advisiable to also have Science GCSE).

It is preferred that you have these qualifications prior to starting your Level 3 Access Diploma as the skills you will have gained from studying these qualifications will really help you on this programme.

All applicants will have the opportunity to discuss their application in an interview with one of our tutors, where any questions about the course will be addressed. Additionally, you will complete an English and Maths assessment to assess your readiness for Level 3 study. Depending on the results, you may also have the opportunity to retake either a Maths or English GCSE alongside this course*.

*Please note, it will not be possible to retake both English and Maths GCSE alongside your Access to HE programme.

Details

At the beginning of your course, you will be automatically enrolled in mandatory units totalling 60 credits.

On the Access to Nursing Diploma, you will study the following core subject modules:

Biology:

  • Co-Ordination and Control
  • Diet and Digestion
  • Organisation of the Body
  • Human Cardiovascular System
  • Exchange and Transport of Gases.

Health Context:

  • Promoting Health
  • Delivery of Health Care in the UK
  • Social Roles in the Caring Professions

Psychology:

  • Biopsychology of Stress
  • Concepts of Normality and Mental Health
  • Psychological Perspectives
  • Social Influence and Independence
  • Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination
Work Experience

A work placement may be required for your course. If this is the case, the College will support you in completing a DBS application.
