English and Maths GCSE's grades 4/C or above or equivalent. Individual employers may have their own higher entry requirements.
On an apprenticeship programme, apprentices will learn and develop a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours. These include:
- Understand how to develop and maintain excellentworking relationships with others
- Understand how to access data needed to planand execute work tasks accurately, including an understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM.) and its impact on construction projects
- Understand their broader responsibilities under current legislation and guidance in undertaking construction work
- Install accessible service encasements, bespoke wall/ floor units and fitments, panelling and stair components (e.g. balustrades, handrails and spindles with turns)
- Erect inclined roofs with gables, roof verges and eaves, including finishing’s, joists and roof coverings
- Repair and or replace frames, mouldings, floor or flat roof joist coverings, door and window ironmongery, window components, structural joists and rafters, window components, guttering and downpipes
- Independent working
- Logical thinking
- Working effectively
End Point Assessment:
Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. The apprentice must complete all elements of the on programme learning to achieve the assessment gateway requirements. The EPA consists of 3 assessment methods:
- Knowledge Test
- Practical Skills Test
- Portfolio interview
As part of the apprenticeship there is a dedicated off the job learning requirement. This is a minimum of 6
hours per week for the duration of the apprenticeship.

- Teaching or learning the theory related to their roles
- Coursework
On completion of this standard, apprentices can progress into a wide range of employment opportunities or further education.
