Care Leaver Information

We recognise that care experienced students may need some extra support to fully participate and be successful in Higher Education.

In light of this, we are committed to ensuring that you’re fully supported throughout your time with us, so that you can reach your full potential and achieve all that you’re capable of during your time in Higher Education.

The Local Authority’s responsibility to Care Leavers extends until they reach the age of 21 (or 24 where the Local Authority is involved in supporting them in Higher Education or training).

When studying Higher Education and Hopwood Hall College, Care leavers may be able to access support in:

• Provision of a social worker or a personal adviser
• Financial assistance
• Help with accommodation
• Benefits and budgeting advice
• Help to develop independent skills
• Support with education (including further education)
• Employment and training
• Support to access health services
