Zoo Science and Wildlife Conservation

Turn your passion for animals into real conservation work.

At Hopwood Hall College, you’ll gain the practical skills and experience needed to work with animals and support conservation efforts in the UK and beyond.

Based on our 70-acre Middleton campus, you’ll work with over 500 animals, including rare and endangered species such as the Keeled Box Turtle, Vietnamese Pond Turtle, and Bali Myna. You’ll develop hands-on skills in animal care, habitat management, and conservation practice, from feeding and enclosure maintenance to specialist work in our Tropical House.

The course also includes real-world conservation opportunities, from local partnerships with the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit to international projects like sea turtle protection in Greece, plus breeding programmes in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University.

By the end, you’ll have practical experience, a strong skillset, and the confidence to move into careers in zoos, wildlife conservation, or further specialist study.
