In addition to an EHCP, learners will typically have completed an Entry Level 3 or Level 1 vocational qualification and need further support to develop their work and study skills, and their independence.
How it works:
Following a 3-week induction, learners will meet each day for a tutorial and employability session for approximately one hour before starting work, and end the day with a debrief and a chance to refelct of the day's work. These employability skills sessions will focus on communication, personal presentation and professionalism, as well as specific technical skills for the work setting.
Skills and Qualities Developed:
- Professionalism & Reliability - Learners build a strong work ethic by consistently following workplace rules and adhering to routines.
- Readiness & Engagement - By attending daily employability sessions and actively participating, learners develop commitment and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Personal Presentation & Hygiene - Understanding and applying appropriate grooming and dress standards help to build confidence and self-respect.
- Effective Communication - Learners practice clear communication skills - essential for interacting with colleagues and supervisors.
Work placements are an integral part of the Supported Internship programme. Learners on this course are required to attend placement for two days every week throughout the college year.
The college support each learner throughout the placement experience; from locating an employer, through the interview process and whilst they are undertaking the work experience.
Placements are allocated based on learner skills, ability and confidence levels. Learners will be based across three primary sites: Amazon, Milnrow or the Council offices at Number One Riverside.
Placement partners:
- Rochdale Borough Council
- DFN Project Search
- Amazon
Students who successfully complete this course progress into either further study, employment or apprenticeships.
