4 GCSEs grade D/3 or above to include English and Maths and Science.
If you have not attained GCSE grades 4-9 in English and Maths, you will automatically be enrolled in classes to work towards these qualifications at an appropriate level to suit your ability.
Some riding experience is essential.
You are responsible for having your own riding hat that is up to industry standard for example: PAS 015 (1998 or 2011) and BSI kitemarked) and smooth-soled riding boots..
This Level 2 course covers the skills you need to progress to further learning and training, or to start your career working in the equine industry.

Undertake routine stable duties

The principles of feeding and watering horses

Horse handling and grooming

Introduction to lungeing horses
You will then have the choice of studying some of the following options:

Equine anatomy and physiology

Riding horses on the flat

Riding horses for exercise
Your optional units may help with your progression onto the Level 3 Technical qualifications where there may be further specialist options for you to choose from.
You will get lots of practice and support to enable you to develop the required skills and knowledge to prepare you for the learning and end assessment.
You will complete 150 hours of work experience which will form part of your timetabled sessions. You will be working 1 day a week all year at a local riding centre.
Once you've completed this qualification, you have demonstrated to an employer that you have the necessary technical skills and knowledge they are looking for when recruiting for a Junior Groom or Junior Equine Retail Assistant
You could go on to study a Level 3 college-based qualification such as Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate in Equine Management over one year or Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Equine Management (1080) over two years.
