Electrical Fitting & Assembly

• Some experience in an engineering environment is expected 

• Learners must be aged 19 or over and in employment 

This apprenticeship unit is for employed engineering operatives and technicians who work with electrical systems, components, or assemblies and need to build or strengthen fundamental electrical fitting and assembly skills. 

It’s ideal if you: 

• Carry out electrical fitting, wiring, or assembly work as part of your role 

• Want to improve accuracy, safety, and efficiency 

• Are stepping up into more complex electrical tasks 

• Need greater confidence in testing and fault‑finding 

What you’ll be able to do 

By the end of the unit, you’ll be able to: 

• Work safely and compliantly, applying health and safety legislation, regulations, and safe systems of work 

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation with confidence 

• Plan and organise electrical tasks effectively, using prioritisation and time‑management techniques 

• Select and use the correct tools, equipment, and consumables for each task 

• Wire, route, and terminate a range of electrical cables accurately and securely 

• Carry out electrical fitting and assembly activities safely and to standard 

• Test electrical assemblies during and after completion to ensure performance and quality 

• Identify and diagnose faults, reducing rework and downtime
