Candidates are required to either: hold the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting role; or provide evidence of a good amount of experience in a paid capacity as an interpreter.
Every applicant also needs to take an initial assessment to determine their level of English and knowledge of a role of a community interpreter.
The Level 3 Certificate consists of 6 mandatory units with credit value of 14, and further minimum of 8 optional credits made up from a choice of 7 optional units. There are several features of this qualification that make it appropriate for target candidates:
- It allows learners to develop their skills and knowledge of the role of a community interpreter and to practice those skills.
- The two-way interpreting unit, which is a practical role-play.
- There is a choice of specialist sectors from which the learners select two to study.
This qualification will allow you to accept most interpreting assignments in the Public Sector (apart from legal). Guidance and support to find freelance employment as an interpreter is an integral part of the course.
The Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting enables candidates who already demonstrate a high level of skills in two languages to undertake paid interpreting work in Public Sectors in the UK. This qualification is an extension of the Level 2 qualification and allows progression to Level 4 and/or Level 6 (DPSI).
