HNC Esports (Operations Management)

The Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC, equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree) offers students a clear progression pathway into the esports industry or wider creative industries. The HNC will help to develop students into independent-thinking professionals who can meet the demands of employers and adapt to a constantly changing world. Learners will also develop a wide range of transferable skills and knowledge that can be applied to other digital and STEAM-based careers.

Staff credentials: The academic HE staff team on the programme have vocational experience within the Esports, Sports Media and Games industries all with proven academic ability, making them ideally placed to help you the learner apply theory and practical skills to professional levels.

The staff educational profile includes a master's degree in Animation and Digital Effects, Media Production, Indie Development, Graphic Design and Sports Science. All staff have a recognised teaching qualification and work closely with industry partners to prepare a curriculum that closely supports progression into industry.

Expected workload: 12 hours per week on campus in face-to-face lecturers, seminars or workshops. Learners will be expected to undertake independent theoretical and practical study to support face to face learning. Learners aiming to join college CHAMPs teams will also be expected to attend all related coaching and analytics sessions.

Entry Requirements

64 UCAS tariff points which could include:

  • 1 or more A Level
  • BTEC Level 3
  • NVQ Level 3

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above

Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but with a minimum of three years' relevant industry experience.

Details

The Higher National Certificate level 4 requires learners to complete 120 credits. These Core, Specialist and optional units will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in esports.

Work Experience

You will have the opportunity to train and compete in national tournaments. You will undertake live briefs in branding, advertising, self-promotion and video production. You will have the opportunity produce and set up a public esports event.

Progression

Upon completion of the 1-year HNC you can progress onto the level 5 HND or if you just want to begin working, you will be able to pursue a career as a junior in the Esports/Media sector as self-promotion is an essential element within the course structure.
