This qualification is a short introduction if you are thinking about working in the voluntary sector. It is also suitable if you are already involved in a voluntary organisation and want to formalise and further develop your existing experience and skills.
It is ideal if you are studying larger programmes in related areas, such as Uniformed Protective Services, Healthcare, or Sport. The course also provides a strong foundation if you wish to progress onto further study and development. There are no specific prior learning requirements, although having completed an Entry Level 3 qualification may be helpful. This qualification is suitable for anyone aged 16 and above.
Modules on this course include:
- Explore volunteering and the ways to become a volunteer
- Personal standards and requirements for working in a volunteering role
You will be assessed through a range of methods, including PowerPoint presentations, poster designs, leaflets, and a completed workbook for the two units you will study. You will also take part in voluntary work on campus, which will be reflected through both natural and simulated performance activities.
The main pieces of evidence for your portfolio may include (in no particular order):
- Assessor observation – completed observational checklists and related action plans
- Witness testimony
- Learner’s proof of work
- Worksheets
- Assignments/projects/reports
- Record of professional discussion
- Record of oral and written questioning
- Learner and peer reports
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to explore volunteering, gain valuable experience, and progress onto the full-time Uniformed Protective Services course or other vocational courses within the Hopwood Hall College community.
