Hopwood Hall College honours former governors with new building names

Hopwood Hall College will name its new buildings after two former governors in honour of their memory.

Robert Clegg OBE and Clive Reid collectively dedicated almost 50 years of voluntary service as members of the college’s governing board.

In a tribute to their remarkable service, their names will soon be bestowed upon two new facilities which are due to open in the near future.

Clive – who held roles including Independent Corporation Member, Deputy Chair and Chair of the Audit Committee from 1996 until 2024 – will be remembered through The Reid Building.

Due for completion in autumn, it is a Grade II listed chapel that is currently being developed into a state-of-the-art learning environment at the Middleton Campus.

Meanwhile, the college’s new block currently being constructed in the centre of Rochdale will be named The Clegg Building, due to open in 2027.

Robert led the college through a period of significant transformation while serving as its Chair of the Corporation from 1999 until 2018.

Julia Heap, Principal and CEO of Hopwood Hall College, said: “I can’t overstate the contributions that both Clive and Robert made to our college community while volunteering as governors.

“They served during some of the college’s most transformative years and their impact is still being felt to this day.

“I speak for all who knew them and worked alongside them when I say that we miss them both deeply.

“By honouring them in this way, their legacies will be remembered for many more years to come.”
