Heads of Hopwood Hall channel world leaders as they attempt two-minute challenge to celebrate new college strategy

Hopwood Hall College and University Centre celebrated the launch of its new college strategy by attempting the famed ‘two-minute challenge’.

The viral trend sees people endeavour to list their most prominent achievements in the space of just 120 seconds.

Made famous by world leaders such as Boris Johnson and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, the against-the-clock nature of the challenge puts the heat on all those who attempt it.

Hopwood Principal and CEO, Julia Heap, and Chair of the Corporation, Nazir Afzal, chose to take part in the quick-fire venture to mark the launch of the college’s new strategy.

The ambitious plan outlines four key intentions that the college will implement over the next four years.

It includes crucial aims such as strengthening its reputation as a provider of excellent education and skills, further establishing itself as a champion of inclusivity, and remaining an unrelenting driver of economic prosperity.

The final focus is green-led and commits to becoming the guardians of their environment, including its two campuses in Middleton and Rochdale.

In the video where Julia and Nazir attempt the two-minute challenge, the two begin by explaining how it’s the perfect format to share some of the great things that have been happening at Hopwood Hall.

The pair then throw themselves into the rapid task – with just 120 seconds to make every point.

They both finish – breathless, but energised – just 30 seconds over their target.

The footage was shared on the college’s social media channels on Monday to mark the beginning of Colleges Week.

Colleges Week is a national campaign run each year by the Association of Colleges to shine a light on all the brilliant work going on in the world of further education.

Julia Heap, Principal and CEO of Hopwood Hall College and University Centre, said:

“While we’re pleased with our time in the two-minute challenge, we’re even happier that we had the opportunity to share a small snapshot of all the amazing things that have been happening at Hopwood Hall.

“We’re now ready to look to the future – and what better way to do this than with the launch of our brand new college strategy!

“There are some very ambitious goals included, but we’re confident we can achieve these and continue to make a difference to the community and wider region.”
