EWA Entry Test for Experienced Electricians

Your Gateway to the Experienced Worker Qualification

Are you a time-served electrician with extensive industry experience but without the formal qualifications needed to access the Experienced Worker route?

Hopwood Hall College is now offering the EWA Entry Test for the Installation & Maintenance pathway, providing an alternative route for experienced electricians to progress towards recognised industry qualifications.

What is the EWA Entry Test?

The Electrical Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding Test (Level 3 equivalent) has been developed for experienced electricians who have built up substantial practical knowledge throughout their careers but do not hold the minimum Level 2 qualifications normally required to access the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA).

Successful completion of the test enables eligible candidates to progress onto the Experienced Worker qualification route.

Who Is It Suitable For?

The EWA Entry Test is designed for:

  • Experienced electricians with at least 10 years’ auditable electrical industry experience
  • Qualified supervisors and time-served electricians
  • Individuals who possess extensive practical knowledge but have not completed a full Level 2 or Level 3 electrical qualification
  • Those seeking to achieve industry recognition through the Experienced Worker route

The test is not intended for apprentices, trainees, new entrants to the industry, or individuals with limited practical experience.

Assessment Process

Stage 1 – Skills Scan

Before being considered for the EWA Entry Test, all applicants must complete an Installation & Maintenance Skills Scan to demonstrate their experience and suitability.

Stage 2 – Eligibility Review

Our specialist team will assess your experience and supporting evidence to confirm your eligibility. Approval from TESP is also required.

Stage 3 – EWA Entry Test

Candidates approved through the Skills Scan process will be offered a place on one of our scheduled testing sessions.

The test consists of:

  • 50 questions
  • 100-minute duration
  • Installation & Maintenance-specific content
  • Level 3 equivalent underpinning knowledge assessment

Stage 4 – Progression onto the Experienced Worker Qualification

Once you have successfully passed the EWA Entry Test, Hopwood Hall College can support you to enrol onto the Level 3 Experienced Worker Qualification (City & Guilds 2346), enabling you to work towards recognised industry status.
