All of our lecturers have PGCEs and relevant degrees in this subject, including BSc in Health and Social Care, MSc in Psychology, BSc in Applied Psychology and Counselling, and other Social Work qualifications.
We work in partnership with a wide range of healthcare providers across the region who provide work placement opportunities for our students, enablling you to grow your professional portfolio.

Entry Requirements
Direct Entry:
- English and Maths GCSE Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
- Level 3 qualification preferably in a relevant subject (Equivalent to 80 UCAS Points).
Conditional Entry:
- Interview and screening to ensure you are capable of writing assignments at degree level. This will include a Maths and English test via a written essay.
A process of a personal statement and interview to follow to ensure you are appropriate for the programme, subject to successful completion of a DBS check.

Compulsory modules in Year 1 - Level 4:
- Introduction to Health and Social Care - 20 Credit points
- Human Biology 1 - 20 Credit points
- Mental Health Awareness - 20 Credit points
- Health and Social Care Placement - 20 Credit points
- Introduction to Safeguarding - 20 Credit Points
- Introduction to Communication - 20 Credit points
Compulsory modules in Year 2 - Level 5:
- Health and Social Care Placement 2 - 20 Credit points
- Human Biology 2 - 20 Credit points
- Public Health - 20 Credit points
- Research and Social Inequalities - 20 Credit points
- Decision Making in Health and Social Care - 20 Credit points
- Substance Misuse and Addiction - 20 Credit points
Expected workload for each module:
- 60 hours of face-to-face instruction
- 140 hours of directed, independent, or simulation-based study
These modules are assessed through essays, presentations, placement logbooks, formative assessments using VR, structured reflections, and creating communication plans.
Level 4 Exit Award: Level 4 Foundation Degree Certificate in Higher Education for Health and Social Care.
Level 5 Exit Award: Level 5 Foundation Degree Award in Higher Education for Health and Social Care.
Course Fees:
- £6,185 per year (full time)
- £3,100 per year (part time)
Please note, part time Level 4 and 5 will each take 2 years (4 years in total). Course fees are subject to the Refund and Fees Policy.

Work Experience
Working in the Health and Social Care setting, you will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the workplace environment. This will be achieved during the course through 2 placements totalling 320 hours. During your placement, you will work with employers such as The Northern Care Alliance.
Students will be actively encouraged to source their own work placement. However, full support will be provided by our internal Careers and Workplace teams, as well as each module tutor.
