English and Maths GCSE's grades 4/C or above or equivalent. Individual employers may have their own higher entry requirements.
On an apprenticeship programme, you will learn and develop a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours. These include:
Perform Vehicle Services and Repairs
- Develop proficiency in conducting routine maintenance and basic repairs, ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Use Diagnostic Equipment and Customer Service Skills
- Learn to use diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues accurately. Enhance your ability to communicate effectively with customers, providing clear explanations of services performed and any necessary repairs.
Understand Vehicle Systems
- Gain knowledge of various vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical components.
Health and Safety Practices
- Get essential knowledge of health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
End Point Assessment:
Your skills will be tested through:
- A multiple-choice test covering essential Autocare concepts.
- A hands-on assessment where you'll demonstrate your ability to perform specific tasks.
- An interview to discuss your experiences and showcase your understanding of the role.
Successful completion can earn you a pass, merit, or distinction grade, setting you up for a bright future in the automotive industry.
Day Release:
During the apprenticeship, you'll come to college 1 day per week, and work with the employer the other 4 days.
As part of the apprenticeship there is a dedicated off the job learning requirement. This is a minimum of 6 hours per week for the duration of the apprenticeship. This could include:
Role Development:
- Observing colleagues
- Receiving mentoring
- Shadowing
- Training
Programme Development:
- Teaching or learning the theory related to their roles
- Coursework
On completion of this standard, apprentices can progress into a wide range of employment opportunities or further education.
