Entry Requirements

Normally you would be expected to have a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in an Construction subject or an appropriate combination of the following:

  • AVCE/GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area
  • GCE A-Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in maths/physics subjects
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • Related work experience
Details

This is a part-time course over two years. Each unit is internally assessed, mostly with assignments and graded by lecturers. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The course is made up of both compulsory units and specialist units that enable you to study particular areas in depth.

Year 1:

  • The Construction Environment:
  • Construction Technology
  • Legal and Statutory Requirements
  • BIM- Building Information Modelling

Year 2:

  • Construction Design Project (Pearson set)
  • Digital Applications for Construction Information
  • Financial Management & Business Practices in Construction
  • Tender & Procurement
Work Experience

This course is designed for students to undertake research and analysis into various aspects of Construction.  Each assignment will be designed to apply knowledge and understanding from various issues to various case study scanrios. Whilst it is not a compulsory requirement, students are encouraged to undertake part time work or work experience to further support the application of learning around theory and concepts.

We work with a variety of employers to look for discussion and opportunity. We also do this course as part of a Higher Level apprenticeship.

Progression

Upon completion of this course students can progress onto an HND, Foundation Degree or undergraduate degree programme in a relevant subject area. Some students will continue straight into employment or further, more specialist study.
