Learning Support Assistant

Purpose

To work alongside the Learning Support Team and Learning Support Assistants to meet the needs of learners with identified additional learning support requirements.

To implement agreed learning support with individuals and groups with a view to encourage learner independence using identified support strategies. The role could assist in a future career as a Learning Support Assistant and beyond.

Duties

  • To serve as an excellent role model
  • To promote participation and independence
  • To build confidence, self-esteem and motivation
  • To work on a 1:1 or small group basis to remove barriers to learning
  • To build a mutually respectful relationship with learners
  • To help set realistic, but challenging goals for learners
  • To contribute to support plans and target setting to aid progress
  • To attend all relevant staff development and training
  • To assist in developing accessible resources and materials to maximise learning
  • To assist learners with the use of specialist equipment and technology to promote independence
  • Any other duties of a similar level of responsibility as may be required
