Course Description
This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the games industry. Units focus on the creative art and level design elements that are considered fundamental to games development. When undertaking practical assessments, you are expected to perform to an industry standard and use your own initiative to research required topics.
The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of games development and related industries such as visual effects. You will also undertake many industry related enrichment visits such as developer conferences to enhance your learning experience.
The world of video games is incredibly exciting, with many different job roles and career paths. Here at Hopwood Hall College, we will provide you with a strong visual and creative base or resources. Students have access to standard PC gaming labs with facilities including; 86 game ready high spec PC’s, 3D printing, green screen, sound recording suite, over 70 Wacom Tablets and VR technology such as the Oculus Touch and HTC Vive. Students are well supported with industry software including Adobe Creative Cloud, Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, Mudbox, Game-Maker, Unity, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter and more.

GCSE English and maths at Grade C/4 or above Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but with a minimum of three years relevant industry experience.

Work Experience
This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your portfolio and gain creative experience in the development of commercial games and to develop content for VR, Unity, and Unreal Engine 4 and the creation of high quality game ready assets. Students also encouraged to undertake local and national competitions, such as World Skills and Artstation Challenges.
Progression
Learners who achieve this qualification can progress onto the second year of a HND degree or Top-up in Games Art, Games Design and Visual Effects or other relevant subject area.
Employment in the games/media sector is also an option with potential careers including: Animator, 3D modelling, Level Designer, Games tester, Concept Artist/Digital Artist, Programmer for Computer Games, Illustrator, Sound and Music Creator, Story Writer, Visual Effects artist for the film industry.
