The Hopwood Hall Fitness Academy is a unique opportunity for enthusiastic young people who are interested in becoming Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers. The course is aimed at people who already attend gyms and aspire to work in gym environments, or may have gym instructor qualifications that they wish to add to. Once you have completed Year 1 of the Fitness Academy you will be equipped with a portfolio of qualifications which meet the needs of both local and national employers. Please note - This is an industry ready qualification and so does not carry any UCAS points, instead, the course focuses on employability.
Level 2 Fitness Academy
4 GCSEs grade D/3 and above, including English and Maths
This course has been developed to meet the expanding employment opportunities within the Sports and Fitness industries including: health and fitness facilities, coaching/teaching, professional sport and performance. Combination of practical and written assignments with no examination. There will be a placement in the second year of the course which students must perform well in as part of the pass criteria

There is no specific work experience required to complete this course, however the college has partnerships with a number of gyms in Greater Manchester and will provide opportunities for work experience.
Upon completion of the qualification students can progress onto the Level 3 Fitness Academy qualification or can seek apprenticeships within the area. Students can also look to pursue employment after completing this qualification if they wish to.
For other students, it will be time to enter employment with possible careers such as: Sport coaching, sports development, leisure centre assistant or supervisor, teaching, PE assistant in schools, armed forces, sports therapist, sports journalist, sports business & marketing, gym instructor, NHS public health initiatives
