Applied Science is a suite of courses that provide an educational foundation for those wishing to pursue a career in science. They cover a wide range of topics and require a high level of practical laboratory skills. Successful students will achieve a recognised qualification to enable them to move into employment or apply to study at degree or Higher National Diploma/Certificate level.
This course provides an educational foundation for those wishing to pursue a career in the medical science field, forensic science field or as a science technician in a wide variety of laboratory settings.
Pearsons BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Applied Science
In order to begin this course students are required to achieve 4 GCSEs grade C/4 or above to include English, Mathematics and Science. BTEC Level 2 qualifications, NVQ Level 2 or VRQ Level 2 qualifications are also accepted.
This course is very practical and involves
numerous activities within our purpose built laboratories.

Although there are no specific work experience placements, there is a combination of theory and practical classes in our purpose built science laboratories.
Upon completion of this course learners are able to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic Science.
Possible careers include: Laboratory technician, forensics, analytical scientist, anthropologist, scenes of crime officer or roles in any of the following fields: biomedical science, pharmacy, micro biology or radiography.
