If you are currently employed within the pet care sector or are looking for a career within the animal care industry, then this qualification is aimed at you. Working with animals is extremely rewarding, but it can require long hours, with dedication and enthusiasm for the role. This qualification will help you with your professional development or increase your chances of employment. You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent dog walker. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area. There are no other recognised qualifications for dog walkers at this level and the course is accredited by the Pet Industry Federation.
The full cost of this course is £200. The course runs for 4 weeks, 3 hours per week, Tuesdays 5pm-8pm and begins on Tuesday 21st April 2020. Loans for course fees may be available for eligible learners.
City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Dog Walking
This course is suitable for those aged 16 or over. Prospective learners should have a good level of maths and English in order to successfully complete assessments at Level 2 standard. Some experience of working with dogs in a commercial enterprise would be useful but is not essential.
This qualification covers the skills you will need to progress to work as a dog walker.
On completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker
- Understand the requirements of current legislation and codes of practice for transporting and walking dogs
- Know breeds of dogs and their typical behaviour
- Carry out a behavioural observation on a client’s dog
- Walk and control a dog
- Understand problems, injuries and emergencies sustained to the dog and dog walker whilst walking.
The purpose of this course is for you to understand the roles, responsibilities and requirements of an individual who wishes to offer a professional dog walking service.
The duration of the course is optional for students. You can choose to take a 4 week course starting on 10th September 2019 and ending on 1st October 2019 or a 2 day course starting Saturday 19th October and ending on Saturday 26th October 2019.
£200 This includes all course materials, examination entrance fees and registration with the awarding body.

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to employers or the public that you have the practical skills and knowledge they are looking for when recruiting/seeking the services of a dog walker. You could also progress onto the Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Pet Sitting
