Course Description

The course is for intermediate users and assumes students are already familiar with the software packages delivered. Students who have completed a level 1 IT users qualification covering the specific software listed below will find this course an appropriate next steps in enhancing your IT skills.

The qualification requires students to complete 4 units.

  • Presentation Software (Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • Spreadsheet Software (Microsoft Excel)
  • Word Processing Software (Microsoft Word)
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

This course is for anyone who wants to improve their use of Microsoft Office in either a work or home setting. The techniques incorporated into each unit are Intermediate in nature because they are less common than basic techniques and are for more specialised use of the listed software packages.

The course runs for 18 weeks, 4 hours per week, on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 6-8pm. The full course cost is £400. The course begins on Tuesday 28th January 2020.

Entry Requirements

Students must have a basic understanding of PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Microsoft Windows and be able to use a keyboard and mouse or if required assistive technology.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Students will learn how to:

  • Input and combine text and other information within presentation slides
  • Use presentation software tools to structure, edit and format slide sequences
  • Prepare slides for presentation

Microsoft Excel

Students will learn how to:

  • Use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other data
  • Select and use appropriate formulas and data analysis tools to meet requirements
  • Select and use tools and techniques to present and format spreadsheet information

Microsoft Word

  • Enter and combine text and other information accurately within word processing documents
  • Create and modify layout and structures for word processing documents
  • Use word processing software tools to format and present documents effectively to meet requirements

All units will be assessed though the completion of an assignment set and marked by your college tutor.

Work Experience

There are no work experience placements related to this part time course.

Progression

This is an intermediate course for students familiar with PowerPoint, Excel and Word. On completion of this qualification students can take an advanced Microsoft Office course.

The skills developed will provide students with the confidence to use the listed office software packages both in the workplace and at home.
