The world of video games is incredibly exciting, with many different job roles and career paths. Here at Hopwood Hall College, we will provide you with a strong visual and creative base as well as access to four industry standard PC gaming labs with facilities including; a 3D printer, green screen, sound recording suite, Wacom Tablets and VR technology such as the Oculus Touch and HTC Vive.
4 GCSEs grade D/3 or above to include English and Mathematics.
All students are required to achieve GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English. If the required grade is not reached there are opportunities to study these subjects at college alongside the course to help achieve it. This is a government requirement but also needed by many employers for any numbers of careers.
The Level 2 course is a one year study programme where you will learn essential skills needed to develop a 2D game.
Topics on this course include:
- Games design theory & practise
- 2D Games engines
- 2D Animation
- 2D Game Mechanics Implementation
- Concept Art and Digital Painting techniques for 2D characters and environments
- Computer game story development
- Video game sound effects
- Video game sound track production
There will also be numerous educational visits to enhance the learning experience, including EGX Rezzed, Leeds Armouries, National Video Game Museum and much more.
There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course. However, students gain the skills and knowledge that they need to go into the Games industry via live briefs and local/national competitions.
Upon completion of this course, students can progress onto a Level 4 Higher National Certificate Diploma in Games Art or Visual Effects here at Hopwood Hall College. Learners can also progress onto a University Course of their choosing, into employment or into an apprenticeship at Hopwood Hall.
