Course Description

This course is a foundation for barista skills. It is for anyone interested in coffee for either a specific job role or at home. It will enable learners to learn and master the basics for brewing and presenting coffee, as well as a look into the origins of coffee beans and some theory behind coffee and tea. The course is made up of a written exam and a practical task. The written exam is an hour long and the learner will have to answer 20 short written questions, which will be information from the theory side of this course. The practical assessment requires the learner to produce seven specified drinks typically found on a coffee shop menu and present them as if they were serving them to a customer, within 16 minutes. This course is for anyone interested in coffee, be it making and serving coffee for a job or at home. The course is also excellent for someone with no knowledge about coffee, other than the fact they like the taste!

This course will allow learners to progress into jobs immediately in coffee business of all types, commercial or specialty. This is because the course covers all basic aspects of coffee equipment, ingredients and the method for producing coffee and maintaining clean equipment. It will also allow learners to get more out of the coffee that they are making at home or in college, and give them tips on what equipment and ingredients to favour in future.

This course can potentially enable learners to progress into jobs immediately in coffee businesses of all types as the course covers all basic aspects of coffee equipment, ingredients and the method for producing coffee and maintaining and cleaning equipment.

Progression can also come through work, this qualification can allow an employee to progress within a business to a higher level of barista or bar staff.
