If you're looking to change your career and need entry level skills, this programme has been designed for you. Taught over 16 weeks, you will develop the basic specialist skills and knowledge in pastry, bakery and desserts so you can confidently progress to level 2 for a future working in the patisserie and bakery sector. Students are expected to purchase the required uniform for their programme. Uniform and equipment requirements reflect both industry norms and safety requirements. These should specifically conform to Hopwood Hall College standards and include: Chef Whites, Chefs trousers, Apron, hat and safety shoes (order form and specific details will be provided at enrolment; approximate cost: £35)

While the college is delivering online learning the theory and knowledge aspect of this course will be front loaded, when we return to face-to-face learning there will be more practical learning.
City & Guilds Level 1 Introduction to Baking and Desserts
No previous experience is necessary just a love of all things to do with Baking
This qualification is assessed using practical observation and written tests and includes the following modules - Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment Work effectively as part of a hospitality team Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food Cook and finish simple bread and dough products Cook and finish basic pastry products Cook and finish basic cakes, biscuits and scones
Work experience is not essential as part of this course
On successful completion of this course, you could progress to Certificate in General Patisserie & Confectionery - Level 2.
