These courses provide learners with the competences to work within the health and social care field and progress to university or employment. Students will be given assignments in each unit which will cover the outcomes for that unit and these will be graded pass, merit and distinction. Assessment will also be carried out in the work placement.
BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care (Pearsons)
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above are needed to begin this course, and this needs to include English and Maths. All students are required to achieve GCSE grade C/4 in English and Maths. If these two subjects don’t reach the required grade, there are opportunities to study these subjects alongside the course to help achieve grade C. This is a government requirement but also needed by many employers for any number of careers.
Alternative entry requirements to the GCSEs include the CACHE Level 2 Certificate, BTEC Level 2 qualification, NVQ Level 2 or VRQ Level 2.
These courses provide learners with the competencies to work within the health and social care field. Professions include social work, youth and community work, psychology, nursing, paramedics, occupational therapy, sports, science, various positions within residential and nursing homes, mental health and allied medical professions. Courses consists of academic work within the college and practical work within the vocational industry and are subject to CRB clearance.

Learners are expected to complete 100/200 hours per year depending on the course level.
The first placement will be allocated to you in your first term. You will be visited at your placement by a member of staff.
On completion of the course students’ progress onto our Level 3 diploma in Health and Social Care or they can go into employment.
For other students, it will be time to enter employment with possible careers such as: Health professional, home carer, health care assistant, care assistant, senior carers, support worker, auxiliary nurse, personal assistant, paramedic, occupational therapist.
