Course Description

If your first language is not English and you want to improve your written and spoken English, this course is for you.

Covering the four main skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, you will gain nationally recognised qualifications in English language, ICT, maths and employability skills. In addition, you will learn about UK culture and take part in events to celebrate your own. You’ll also take part in fun competitions to develop job interview skills and entrepreneurial skills, and develop the confidence to live, study and work in the UK successfully.



Entry Requirements

Students wishing to begin the ESOL course need no formal qualifications.


Topics on this course include:

  • Follow the gist of straightforward verbal communication
  • Obtain relevant detail from straightforward verbal communication
  • Follow straightforward verbal instructions correctly for a given purpose
  • Use clear pronunciation to convey intended meaning
  • Use appropriate language in context according to formality
  • Be able to convey information
  • Present information using an appropriate structure for a given purpose
  • Provide a verbal account of relevant information for a given audience
  • Convey relevant detail during verbal communication
  • Contribute constructively to discussion on straightforward topics
  • Express views constructively during verbal communication on straightforward topics
  • Plan action with others for a given task
  • Obtain relevant information from others

This course will enable you to:

  • Write emails, reviews, reports, job application letters and supporting statements to apply for college courses
  • Work in sports, IT, accounting, health care and child care, hairdressing
  • Speak to and understand doctors, work colleagues and teachers
  • Read and understand information, news, instructions and books
  • Make friends using English

Work Experience

Students wishing to begin the ESOL course need no formal qualifications.


Once students have successfully completed the course they are able to progress onto Level 1 courses in: childcare, hair and beauty, sports, business, motor vehicle and construction.

Previous learners have found work in IT, sports, hair and beauty, health care, child care, accounting and the arts.
