The qualifications are designed to ensure you develop the knowledge, practical and technical skills required in business.
Level 1 Introduction to Business
There are no formal qualifications required for students wishing to begin this course. All students are required to achieve GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English. If the required grade is not reached there are opportunities to study these subjects at college alongside the course to help achieve it. This is a government requirement but also needed by many employers for any numbers of careers.
Topics on this course include:
From creating to-do lists and filing systems to setting up your phone for alerts and alarms, this unit will introduce you to ways that will help you to plan and use your time effectively, as well as organising yourself and your work.
Developing a Personal Progression Plan
You will have the opportunity to find out what opportunities are available to you and how to get to the next stage. You will carry out a self-audit, identifying what your strengths are and what you need to develop to be able to meet your progression goals. You will learn how to set goals and plan ways to achieve them. You will then produce a personal progression plan to help you reach the next step in your life.
Organising a Meeting
You will learn what is needed to organise a meeting. You will be given a meeting to organise, setting a date and time and putting together an agenda of the key points that will be discussed. You will invite people to attend by sending out invitations. You will sit in on the meeting and take a record of it.
Branding a Product
You will look at well-known brands and what makes them successful in terms of colour and style. You will then be given a product to brand by creating a logo and strapline.
Presenting a Business Idea
You will develop the skills to prepare and present an idea to an audience. You will learn how important it is to be well prepared, making sure you know everything you need to and that you have covered the most important points in your presentation to ensure your business idea is convincing.
As part of the course students will complete 1-2 days work experience with local employers.
On completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business
