Course Description

The course includes a wide range of skills and activities associated with the plumbing industry. Learners also complete tutorials, and functional skills for the construction industry. Level 3 is an introduction to plumbing, aimed at the learner who has no prior knowledge and wants to get into the construction industry. This course is also available to DIY persons who want a more in depth understanding of the topic.

The Level 2 qualification in Plumbing, applicants with relevant industry experience will also be considered.

Details

At Level 3 there is a Diploma in Plumbing and Heating or a Diploma in Heating. The Diploma in Plumbing and Heating has elements of both central heating and plumbing in more depth which includes design and planning for bathrooms, hot and cold water systems and central heating systems.

Practical work develops hands-on skills needed for the trade; classroom work develops the knowledge needed to succeed in the trade.

A basic level of Maths is embedded into the course as it is needed to succeed in this trade.

Learners are given real tasks that are assessed and tested to industrial standards. The new Technology Centre Annexe at Hopwood Hall College gives students the opportunity to get hands on experience of working on and installing plumbing systems.

Topics on this course include areas such as:

  • Understand the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
  • Plumbing system installation planning
  • Complex cold water systems
  • Domestic hot water
  • Sanitation and drainage systems
  • Central heating systems
  • Domestic gas principles
  • Career awareness in building services engineering

Students will also attend tutorial sessions on a weekly basis where topics to develop employability skills will be covered.

There is no specific work experience required for this course however there is a strong practical element.
