The course includes a wide range of skills and activities associated with the plumbing industry. Learners also complete tutorials, and functional skills for the construction industry. Level 1 is an introduction to plumbing, aimed at the learner who has no prior knowledge and wants to get into the construction industry. This course is also available to DIY persons who want a more in depth understanding of the topic.
City & Guilds Diploma in Plumbing - Level 1
No formal qualifications. Functional skills in English and Maths will run alongside this qualification.
The Level 1 qualification provides an introduction into the area of plumbing, covering the basics through practical work and classroom work.
The practical work develops the hands-on skills needed for the trade; classroom work develops the knowledge needed to succeed in the trade.
A basic level of Maths is embedded into the course as it is needed to succeed in this trade.
Learners are given real tasks that are assessed and tested to industrial standards. The new Technology Centre Annexe at Hopwood Hall College gives students the opportunity to get hands on experience of working on and installing plumbing systems.
Topics on this course include areas such as:
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Structure of the construction industry
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Health and safety in building services engineering
- Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
- Common plumbing processes
Students will also attend tutorial sessions on a weekly basis where topics to develop employability skills will be covered.
There is no specific work experience required for this course however there is a strong practical element.
Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing. Courses in other building trades or an apprenticeship.
