This course is for learners who are new to painting and decorating and want to learn the basics before learning advanced techniques to pursue a career in this area. Our qualifications are aimed at people wishing to become experts in their chosen trade. Learners will be taught in state of the art bespoke workshops and classrooms by industry experienced tutors. Students will have the opportunity to work with real life clients through projects, past examples include supporting charities and children’s homes.
City & Guilds Diploma in Painting & Decorating
No formal qualifications. Functional skills in English and Maths will run alongside this qualification.
The Level 1 qualification provides an introduction into the area of painting and decorating, covering basics through a mixture of practical work and classroom work.
Learners attend practical workshop lessons and theory classroom lessons, this course is split 60/40 practical and theory.
The practical work develops the hands-on skills needed for the trade; classroom work develops the knowledge needed to succeed in the trade.
A basic level of Maths is embedded into the course as it is needed to succeed in this trade.
Topics on this course include:
- Principles of building construction information and communication
- Applying paint systems by brush and roller
- Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
- Preparing surfaces for decoration
- Applying foundation and plain paper
- Producing specialist decorative finishes
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
Students will also attend tutorial sessions on a weekly basis where topics to develop employability skills will be covered.
There is no specific work experience required for this course however there is a strong practical element and there will likely be opportunities to carry out work experience within this course.
Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating, courses in other building trades or an apprenticeship.
