Course Description

Are you a hands-on innovator who likes to take an idea from a piece of paper and bring it to life? If so, you are the perfect person to study our Level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

This course is taught at our Middleton Campus in Middleton, Greater Manchester. In particular, it’s located in our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre.

The building is one of the most sought-after places for trades-based training in the region – featuring 6,500 square-metres of the newest and most cutting edge equipment.

Our Engineering workshops are amongst the most impressive parts of the facility, giving you access to all the tools, machinery and equipment needed to take your first steps into this exciting sector.

Under the guidance of our expert tutors who have worked in the industry themselves, you’ll develop the advanced knowledge and hand skills required to progress to the next stage of study.

In addition, you’ll be able to specialise in one of four engineering areas: Manufacturing, Welding & Fabrication, Engineering Maintenance or Electrical & Electronics.

This Level 3 qualification will ultimately give you the ideal grounding to confidently progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma.

City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Engineering

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs grade 4 and above, preferably, including English and Maths
  • or a Level 2 qualification

Entrants who do not have a grade 4 or above in English and Maths will continue studying these at the college

You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the perfect foundation for a career in Engineering.


The following topics will provide you with a strong portfolio of evidence to progress onto the next level of study:


  • Engineering health and safety
  • Engineering principles
  • Principles of fabrication and welding
  • MIG welding or materials
  • Sheet metal work and fabrication of materials
  • Producing drawings using CAD


Work Experience

There will be opportunities to undertake work experience and work placements.

In addition, the engineering workshop is designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.

Progression

Following completion of the course, you will be able to progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification or a T-Level.You will also be able to pursue alternative opportunities if you prefer, including an apprenticeship, a traineeship or employmnet.
