Course Description

This course is for learners looking to learn the basic about electrical installation and security alarms. This course is for learners who enjoy working in practical roles that offer challenge and variety. All levels of this course include a wide range of activities and you will learn skills that are associated with industrial installations, inspection and testing, fault finding and diagnosis. Our qualifications are aimed at people wishing to become experts in

their chosen trade. Following completion of this course you can progress onto further levels in this area to learn more or can look at apprenticeship routes. Learners will be taught in our state of the art bespoke workshops and classrooms by industry experienced tutors.

This course is 2.5 days per week, 50/50 theory and practical plus one hour of tutorial.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications, but subject to initial assessment and diagnostics. Functional skills in English and Maths will run alongside the course.

Details

The Level 1 qualification provides an introduction into the area of electrical installation and security alarms, covering basic principles through a mixture of practical work and classroom work.

The practical work teaches the hands-on skills needed for the trade, classroom work teaches the knowledge needed for the trade.

Maths and physics are embedded into the course as they are a crucial part of this area. At this level the Maths and Physics is fairly basic, the higher course levels increase in difficulty.

Topics on this course include:

  • Electrical safety and safe working practice
  • Electrical science and technology
  • Fault identifying
  • Inspection and testing
  • Health, safety and welfare in the trade
  • Basic circuits
  • Ladder training

Students will also attend tutorial sessions on a weekly basis where topics to develop employability skills will be covered.

Work Experience

There is no specific work experience required to pass this course however there is a strong practical element. As the course is only 2.5 days a week students are encouraged to take up part time work alongside the course to develop their skills.

Progression

Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or Electrical and Electronic Engineering courses or apprenticeships. Possible careers include: Installation electrician, maintenance electrician, service engineering, testing engineer, electrical engineer or sales engineer.
