Course Description

The level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts has been designed to incorporate a strong element of collaborative and vocational learning to provide students with the understanding, knowledge and skills identified as necessary for future progression and employment within the industry.

Emphasis is placed on providing an experience which draws on the realities of the performing arts industry, with students being treated as young professionals and encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own learning. The course is made up of 9 units and the majority are linked together to provide the learner with assessments that are based on real-life scenarios linked to industry experience.

  • Acting technique and performance
  • Dance technique and performance
  • Producing and directing a performance
  • Community theatre
  • Production roles and technical theatre

Students gain works experience through taking part in the 4 in-house shows and are given industry based opportunities such as performing in the Media Student’s work and placements within the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

Upon completion of this course, students can take part in an internal progression onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.


Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade D/3 or above to include English and Mathematics. All students are required to achieve GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English. If the required grade is not reached there are opportunities to study these subjects at college alongside the course to help achieve it. This is a government requirement but also needed by many employers for any numbers of careers.


This course is taught by a mix of practical sessions, performance rehearsals and classroom teaching, ensuring students are given sufficient knowledge to use during performances.

Students will be expected to attend college 9pm-5pm three days a week. To be successful on this course it is essential that you have good attendance and punctuality. You must also be motivated, committed and enthusiastic as you will be expected to develop a range of skills that will celebrate and nurture the potential in Performing Arts and Dance.

Work Experience

There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course however there is a strong physical, practical element and you will get the opportunity to perform in productions in our Hopwood Theatre.


Upon completion of this course, students can undertake an internal progression onto Level 3 in Performing Arts or Dance.
