Understanding Mental Health - Taster Session

This FREE 2-week taster course is designed to introduce mental health and mental well-being. It will give you an opportunity to find out about the full Level 3 course offered at the college and gain an insight into areas within the sector. As part of this taster course, you will also meet with the course lead to ensure suitability for our full time programme.

This course is FREE given that the following eligibility is met:

•    You live within the Greater Manchester area
•    You have lived in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years now and/or have a settled status
•    Asylum Seekers must have been in the country for the past 6 months before they are eligible to do this course

Note: If you enrol on further study you may be asked to provide proof of income or benefit.

This course is taught at our Rochdale campus, located in Rochdale Town Centre, Greater Manchester.

Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs grade D or above or equivalent to include English Language and Mathematics.

This 1 year course consists of many units including: Introduction to communication in health, social care Introduction to personal development in health, social care Introduction to equality and inclusion in health and social care Introduction to duty of care in health and social care Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care The role of the health and social care worker Implement person centred approaches in health and social Contribute to health and safety in health and social care Handle information in health and social care settings The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Work Experience
You will need to be already working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills to enrol on this course.
