T Level - Science

This T-Level has been developed in consultation with employers in the Science sector to ensure you learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work in science, including roles such as a Laboratory Research Scientist or a Food Safety Analyst.

It is designed for post-16 students and is an ideal qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the Science sector, to a higher apprenticeship, or to further studies at university.

This T-Level combines classroom theory and practical learning with a minimum 45-day (315 hour) industry placement with an employer, which is invaluable for anyone looking to get real-world industry experience.

This course is taught at our Middleton campus, located in Middleton, Greater Manchester

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade 5 and above, including English, Maths and Science.

Details

You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the perfect foundation for a career in science.

The course is made of two parts. First, you'll develop your understanding in the Core Component, which provides a strong portfolio of knowledge in the following areas:

  • Core Biology Concepts: Including cells and tissues, biological molecules, enzymes, DNA, pathogens, and immunology.
  • Core Chemistry Concepts: Including acids and bases, materials and their properties, rates of reaction, chemical analysis, and formulae.
  • Core Physics Concepts: Including particles and radiation, electricity, magnetism, waves, gas laws, and pressure.
  • The Science Sector: An understanding of good scientific practice and what it's like working in the science sector.

Second, you will choose one Occupational Specialism to develop your practical skills for a specific career:

  • Laboratory Sciences
  • Food Sciences
Work Experience

You'll have the amazing opportunity to undertake a 45-day (minimum 315 hour) work placement during your T Level. We're proud to work alongside several reputable employers, meaning you can look forward to working with the best that the industry has to offer.

This placement promises to be invaluable - ultimately giving you the chance to grow your skillset, expand your knowledge and become comfortable in a professional environment. All in all, the experience will make you an extremely attractive candidate when applying for job roles or to university.

This course will open several exciting opportunities for you. You'll most likely progress into one of the following:
