In 2019, a total of 5,738 individuals were referred to Prevent programme, with the education sector accounting for 33% of this number. Safeguarding is an essential part of any role that involves working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
This nationally recognised level 2 qualification delves into various aspects of safeguarding, including identifying signs of abuse, understanding legal and ethical responsibilities, implementing effective reporting procedures, and ensuring the well-being of children and young adults. The purpose of this qualification is to increase the learner’s knowledge and awareness of the Prevent Duty and safeguarding, including online safety. By completing the qualification, learners will develop knowledge of safeguarding in an environment where they have a duty of care.

ATTENDANCE:
This course is delivered on a Flexible Learning basis over a twelve-week period. You will be assigned an assessor who will be able to provide additional help and support if required but all learning will be completed and submitted remotely through an on-line learning platform. Your assessor will provide feedback and advice on all work submitted and will assess your full qualification through to the end of learning.

Entry Requirements
There are no specific prior learning requirements for this qualification. It will be beneficial if you have Level 1 English and feel competent with using IT.
Eligibility:
- You must currently live in England
- You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
- You must be over the age of 19
- You must not be on an apprenticeship
Details
This course is made up of three units:
- Understanding the Prevent duty
- Understanding safeguarding
- Understanding online safety
Work Experience
As this qualification is knowledge only, you do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification. However, if a work placement is a required for your course, the College will support you in completing a DBS application.
Progression
Learners can also progress to a range of qualifications including:
- Level 3 qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Level 3 qualifications in Working with Children and Young People
- Level 3 Certificate in Working with Vulnerable Young People
This qualification may support progression toward the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
