Principles of Dementia Care - Level 2 Certificate
Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, and cases are rising. By 2052, it's expected that two million people in the UK will have dementia. If you work with people with dementia, it's important that you understand different approaches to dementia care.
Our level 2 course will teach you the different forms of dementia, and how to support individuals with person-centred care and positive communication.

ATTENDANCE:
This course is delivered on a Flexible Learning basis over a twelve-week period. You will be assigned an assessor who will be able to provide additional help and support if required but all learning will be completed and submitted remotely through an on-line learning platform. Your assessor will provide feedback and advice on all work submitted and will assess your full qualification through to the end of learning.

Entry Requirements
There are no specific prior learning requirements for this qualification. It will be beneficial if you have Level 1 English and feel competent with using IT.
Eligibility:
- You must currently live in England
- You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
- You must be over the age of 19
- You must not be on an apprenticeship
Details
This course is made up of seven units:
- Dementia awareness
- Person-centred approach to care and support
- Understand equality, diversity and inclusion
- Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
- Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
- Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
- Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care.
Work Experience
As this qualification is knowledge only, you do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification. However, if a work placement is a required for your course, the College will support you in completing a DBS application.
Progression
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
- Level 3 Certificates in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Level 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England
