This apprenticeship unit is for employed engineering operatives and technicians who:

Work in mechanical fitting, assembly, or production environments

Want to strengthen or refresh mechanical assembly fundamentals

By the end of the unit, you’ll be able to:

Apply health and safety legislation and safe systems of work to mechanical fitting and assembly activities

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation accurately

Plan and organise mechanical tasks effectively, using prioritisation and time‑management techniques

Select and use the correct tools, equipment, and consumables for each stage of assembly

Measure and mark out materials accurately in preparation for fitting and assembly

Carry out mechanical fitting and assembly safely and correctly, in line with requirements

Identify and diagnose faults in components and assemblies

Carry out quality checks before, during, and after assembly, ensuring standards are consistently met
